Dr. Koekkoek has been an influential leader in the healthcare space for over 2 decades.
He has led primary care and specialty physician practices. His respected leadership at both Providence St. Joseph health system and at PeaceHealth was instrumental in building strong physician cultures centered on quality, safety, and the patient experience. He has led hospital medical staff structures across several organizations with a particular emphasis in developing robust peer review and utilization management structures. He has developed and mentored a generation of chief medical officers across the west coast. His other notable work includes building brand continuity and shared vision across merging physician practices as well as helping merge community Boards during healthcare system consolidations.
Dr. Koekkoek received his undergraduate degree from the University of Oregon and his medical degree from the Oregon Health Sciences University. He did his internship, residency, and chief residency at Providence Portland Medical Center. He went on to practice both primary care and hospitalist medicine before stepping into his administrative and leadership roles. He is a fellow in the American College of Physicians and a Senior Fellow in Hospital Medicine at the Society for Hospital Medicine.
